METHODS OF TEACHING THEATRE AND DANCING PRACTICALLY

By Norbert Knietsch (teacher for theatre, Rhauderfehn) and

translation Peter Obermeier

The units of the seminar had different subjects and contents. In the morning it was suitable to start with games about movement, of getting in contact and scenes that had to be developed "off the cuff" to establish a positive feeling within the group. As the participants came from different parts of the country and did not know each other, we created an athmosphere in which the participants felt safe and enabled them to have a good start into further artistic work. Each step was reflected and examined on how being suitable to be practised within their groups of students. After having practised different methods of our work with processes within groups and after having trained to describe elements, we were able to present a "show" on the second day of work.

We chose the following steps:

During the whole workshop all participants could be integrated into our artistic work. Nobody was partaking passively or withdrew from working within the group. We would like to stress the fact that teachers from different war regions came together. Having pedagogical aims in mind it was possible to achieve a friendly athmosphere through practising intensive work of dancing and theatre. The participants were able to communicate and to gain new experiences. They were not only interested in new teaching methods but even in getting to know each another. They got in contact and exchanged ideas. All participants were of the opinion that the seminar had been very positive and that further ones should take place.
