Across the hill, only 4 kilometres from Hvar by bus, on the north coast of
the island, is the bay of Vira, which is a car ferry port.
On the slopes of the bay there are a series of Illyrian mounds and the remains
of the Bishop's chapel (Franciscan). In the the next bay of Mala Vira there
was, in the past, a Bishop's summer residance from the 16th century. On this
site there is now a modern camp-site with all modern camping facilities (for
cars as well) and a restaurant. The quiet bay of Pribinja follows, and it can
be reached on foot by taking on old path from the church of Kruvenica above
the city, through the Austrian observation post of Smokovnik.
